PROJECT: Fire & Rescue Privacy Upgrades Program

SCOPE: Halbuild was engaged to deliver significant alterations and upgrades at Umina Fire & Rescue Station as part of FRNSW’s state-wide Privacy Upgrade Program which aims to enhance privacy, diversity and operational functionality across their emergency services facilities.

Works were undertaken across 2 levels within a live, 24/7 operational environment including structural upgrades to the existing mezzanine level to accommodate sleeping quarters, 5 x separate recline rooms and ablution facilities. Internal construction and refurbishment works were carried out on both the ground floor and mezzanine to include the reconfiguration of wet areas, kitchen facilities, fitness room, training room, and watch room to support improved Station operations and daily use. This was followed by the construction of a new internal stairwell linking the ground floor to the new rooms and amenities located on the mezzanine level.

The existing fire indicator was replaced as well as all field devices, early warning system and all fire-rated cabling. Fire-rated plasterboard partition walls were installed to achieve compliant separation between functional zones, and new roof skylights were added to introduce natural light into the mezzanine level recline rooms.

Roof ventilators and roller shutters were also installed to improve CO₂ gas relief within the engine bay and adjacent tenancies. Electrical upgrades included the installation of a new main switchboard and provision for future generator connection, ensuring the Station meets current performance and compliance standards.
